Wilnecote becomes Lead Partner School with Warwick University

Following a rigorous application process Wilnecote High School was accepted as a Lead Partner School in the University of Warwick Partnership for Teacher Education in a ceremony at the University on 7th July 2011.

Acceptance as a Lead Partner reflects the school's commitment to high quality teaching and to Initial Teacher Training.  The school had to meet a number of criteria and key factors in our successful application included:-

  • Very good and improving exam results
  • A 'Good' Ofsted grade in January 2011
  • A longstanding commitment to training teachers from a number of universities
  • A high quality programme of professional development and support for all our staff
  • An excellent induction process for all teaching staff which means that the quality of teaching at the school is very good
  • Strong school leadership
  • A commitment to ongoing and sustainable school improvement

Becoming a Lead Partner will have significant benefits for staff and students:-

  • The school will have the opportunity to work with a wide range of trainee teachers and this can only improve the quality of teaching our students receive
  • Staff will have the opportunity to undertake professional development within the University and so become better teachers.

Headteacher Stuart Tonks commented "It is a real honour to be accepted as a Lead Partner School with Warwick University, one of the top Universities in the country".

"I'm sure this will allow us to improve our classroom practice even further by working with the trainee teachers, with other partnership schools and with staff from the University".
